Timbercombe Gate, Cheltenham

Abitalia have recently furnished a contemporary new build show home in Cheltenham. One of ten homes, the development lies in the Charlton Kings area of Cheltenham, Gloucestershire.

The modern kitchen has been designed, supplied and installed by Abitalia. With contrasting dark wenge tall units along the back wall, the white matt lacquer base units and breakfast bar open up the space. An Abitalia kitchen similar to the one featured with Siemens appliances start from £10,000.

The room has been finished with a black glossy Flos Spun lamp, £689 and Bross Italia wenge bar stools, £798 each.

The dining area is kept light and fresh with a matt white dining table by Novamobili, £1,419 and glossy white ‘Him and Her’ chairs from Casamania, £906 each.

The living room composition ‘Subtle Charm’ from Italian manufacturer Novamobili is made up of a fantastic wall storage system. With open and closed storage for DVD’s, books and games, all electrical equipment can also be neatly stored away. The composition is finished in matt white lacquer and contrasting white foil wrap, £3,400.

The BPA International Dave sofa with scatter cushions and full removable covers, £4,000 and the BPA Jill chair, £5,800 in a tan leather work great with the wooden flooring and neutral tones of the walls and furniture.

The finishing touches to the room include the Tress floor standing light in white from Foscarini, £1,160, and the Calice low round coffee table from Glas Italia. With a beautiful blown glass engraved leg and black glass top, £1,110. The I+I Shine rug is 2x3m square in a black polyester fabric, £1,632.

Abitalia supplied the bed frames, built in wardrobes and accessories for all three of the bedrooms (excluding curtains, carpet and bedspreads).

The master bedroom consists of the Novamobili Line bed in a matt lacquer finish with side tables and headboard, £5,268.

Accessories include the Pedrali Queen chair, £100 and the Flos Spun Light, £595.

Gan rugs from Abitalia

Canevas from Gan rugs

The last blog post from us today(!). A new collection of rugs from the Spanish company Gan / Gandia Blasco. We thought this collection was beautiful. There’s something contemporary and yet nostalgic. The pixel form of the graphic or the passing of time is reflected in stitching technique. Designed by Charlotte Lancelot, the collection will be available soon from Abitalia. If you’re looking for a rug for your home, contact us for more information about Gan rugs.

We like Rememberme from Casamania

Casamania - Rememberme chair

Though it isn’t new for 2012, we do like this gem from Casamania - we saw it again at the Milan fair last week. The Rememberme chair from Casamania was designed in 2011 by Tobia Juretzek. A playful piece that calls on the current focus on sustainability and recycling - Rememberme is entirely made  from old jeans. Available from Abitalia, the completely unique chair is £598 (inc vat and UK delivery)

Giellesse ‘Night’ collection from Milan

Giellesse design and manufacture contemporary furniture for the modern home. The new additions to the ‘Night’ collection displayed at this years Milan furniture fair, demonstrates their attention to trends, technology and quality design.

The highlight for us at Abitalia was the complanare wardrobe called, ironically, 'Basic.' The sliding mechanism is actually beautifully engineered and complex, yet this is hidden by the simplicity of the sliding wardrobe with details such as the recessed handle and the clean single face of the wardrobe doors.

Giellesse Basic sliding wardrobes

The second highlight was the latest configuration of the popular 'Arizona' hinged wardrobe. The subtle handle, almost like a ribbon, runs across the face of the wardrobe. Twisting to create the handle, the soft detail is beautifully executed. Available both in matt lacquer and oak veneer, the hinged wardrobe will continue to be a favourite for clients.

Giellesse bespoke wardrobes

The final highlight from the bedroom collection, was the introduction of a new melamine finish available for both walk in wardrobes and the internal structures. The ‘nordic larch’ melamine replaces the natural oak within the collection.

Giellesse walk in wardrobes

This years stand was evidence of a solid family owned company producing quality furniture without compromise. The quality of finishes, mechanisms and materials are excellent. Giellesse remains our preferred supplier of bedroom furniture and we look forward working with them on projects in the year ahead.

Abitalia work with Giellesse to design and produce beautiful pieces of quality bespoke bedroom furniture. Based in Cheltenham, though working throughout the country, the team at Abitalia are able to design, supply and install furniture for your home or project.

Be sure to look our for our recent Giellesse project being published in 25 Beautiful Homes. We’ll blog the article as soon as the magazine’s on sale.

Mews 02 by Andy Martin Architects

This fantastic piece of architecture is the work of Andy Martin Architects, an established contemporary architectural practice, directed by Australian born Andy Martin.

The building used to be that of a mechanics garage until Andy Martin redesigned it into a four storey, single family residence. The idea was to emphasise the outdoor area and entertaining spaces, done so by using entire glass windowed walls, bringing the outside in and vice versa.

Charcoal blocks and white plastered brick run the full length of the house, continuing the invisible line dividing out and in. Innovative glass window doors are used creating an elegant entrance to the garden area.

Andy Martin Architects will be presenting their latest project at the Milan Fair this April which Abitalia are attending. We hope to see some of their creative, contemporary ideas in person.

Traditional meets contemporary

This Edwardian Grade II listed building was erected in 1910, it has since had an extension in 1937 and now a second contemporary extension in 2012.

The brief was to create a contemporary luxury hotel that would fit sympathetically into it’s existing Edwardian surrounds.

The challenge of placing modern living within a traditional architectural space is something that Abitalia faces on a regular occurrence. Abitalia take careful consideration over every aspect of a project and pride ourselves on our attention to detail.

Contemporary furniture can certainly sit within the walls of another era beautifully. The comparison between sleek, simple furniture and ornate, decorative walls can compliment each other perfectly.

If you have a Regency, Edwardian or any other style of architectural building and are looking to re design with contemporary furniture and fixings, why not email Abitalia and see what we can do for you.
